Free Speech

Readers of our blogs know that our subject matter is intentionally apolitical so as to remain objective in our commentary on our areas of specialization, presentations and communication. We will depart from that policy today to offer an opinion about a related subject: Freedom of speech as it is affected by the recent Supreme Court decision to allow corporations to provide campaign financing. We object to that decision and support measures to counteract it as expressed in an op-ed piece in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal. The article was written by Ralph Nader, a consumer advocate, and Robert Weissman (no relation) the president of Public Citizen.

The Power Presenter Workshop

We invite you to join us for our next Power Presenter workshop on Monday, April 15.  In this workshop the you will learn how to: Tell a compelling story Conquer the fear of speaking Present with confidence, naturally Speak with their body language Create empathy with any audience Each workshop participant has the opportunity to practice the skills in interactive exercises; several participants will be videotaped and coached four separate times, all of which will provide a vivid example of the transformative power of these proven techniques.  The average workshop size is 25 participants. Wave to Publish The Power Presenter in Japanese

Wave Publishers has purchased the rights to translate and distribute Jerry Weissman’s The Power Presenter in Japan.  The book’s Chapter 10, “What Every Speaker Can Learn from Barack Obama,” was of particular interest to the publisher because of the popularity in Japan of President Obama’s public speaking skills.  Since Obama took office,  there have been many articles in the Japanese press about how the Japanese are learning English from him. Many of their lessons have come from the 2008 release of the international best-selling book “The Speeches of Barack Obama,” which sold nearly a half million copies in only (Read More...)

Speaking: FEI Silicom Valley Chapter

Earlier this week, Jerry Weissman presented to a group of senior financial executives at the Financial Executives International(FEI) Silicom Valley Chapter Dinner Meeting at the Palo Alto Hills Country Club. FEI provides exclusive peer networking for chief financial officers, controllers, treasurers, tax executives and finance and accounting professors in academia. Its membership base is 15,000 strong with chapters throughout United States and Canada. Other speakers in 2009 included Joshua Bolten, formerWhite House Chief of Staff; Ronnie Lott, NFL Hall of Famer; and, Tom Campbell, former US Congressman.

Silicom Ventures Boot Camp

On October 28, Jerry Weissman was coached an encore session for the Entrepreneur Boot Camp: Build your Business in a Slow Growth Economy, hosted by Silicom Ventures. Jerry coached a group of 40+ entreprenuers on How to capture Your Audience Immediately.    This hour long Boot Camp included several interactive excercises. One of his most well received exercises included coaching several participants in real time to develop and deliver their own Opening Gambits.
